Best flat pedal ever!! I tore a meniscus and standard pedals are too unforgiving. With 8 Degree pedals, I have the movement of my Speedplay road pedals and NO MORE KNEE PAIN!!
These came up on my feed and I took a chance. What a great decision that was! I have arthritis in both my knees and have always had a hard time with flats. Always adjusting my foot position during rides. With these 8 Degree pedals and their float design I've found I'm keeping my feet in one position. And my knees feel better after the ride! I'm putting them on all 3 of my flat pedal bikes now! Thanks Ken!
I bought these pedals to replace the ones on my Rogue Echo exercise bike. The Echo pedals made my heels hit the crank and the 8 Degree pedals give me enough pivot to avoid that and I don't feel the stress on my knees when using the exercise bike. The recommended red springs are just the right tension since you don't put the same amount of pressure on the pedal as you would on a bicycle. Great addition!
I read the great review in MBA and purchase a pair. The shipping was fast, and the packaging is very high quality. The pedals are extremely well made with high quality bearings. The interchangeable springs and cleats will accommodate any rider. I really like the float and feel more efficient with them. They are definitely more comfortable, and bridge the gap nicely between clipless and flats. Highly recommended.
Overview: After 100 miles across cross-country, trail, and enduro terrain, including a full day at Passion Play in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Here is an honest short-term assessment of the 8 Degree pedals. These were mounted on a brand new Yeti LTe e-bike and ridden in conditions ranging from dry hardpack to hero dirt to unexpected mud, loose gravel, and leaf-covered technical turns.
First Impressions & Unboxing: The packaging is no-frills but purposeful Opening it up, the pedals make an immediate statement. The large platform and dense pin layout signal serious grip intent right away, and the oversized spindle is a clear visual cue of the structural integrity these are built around. A Note for Heavier Riders At 235 lbs. pre-gear, swapping up to the heaviest included spring on the advice of a fellow rider was the right call. For heavier riders concerned about platform flex or pedal feel under power, having that option included is genuinely useful. The installation is well-documented, fast, and straightforward
First Ride Feel: For the first ride, the choice was deliberate; familiar trails to isolate the variables. The pedals went a brand new Yeti LTe. The combination worked in the pedal's favor. Riding known trails on an unfamiliar bike meant every sensation was heightened, and the pedals became part of the conversation immediately. What stood out early was how much the platform contributed to overall confidence. As the ride progressed, the pedals began to move and shift subtly underfoot in a way that initially felt unfamiliar. But once understood, it became clear the pedals were responding to and matching natural foot movement on the bike allowing dynamic repositioning rather than locking into a fixed position. For aggressive trail and enduro riding, that’s exactly the feedback loop you want. Grip, Security & Pedaling Efficiency Foot Retention Across every mile of the test, there was not a single unintended foot ejection. Foot retention was simply there, naturally, without thinking about it. That kind of passive confidence is exactly what a well-designed platform pedal should deliver. The grip works with your natural riding instincts rather than demanding deliberate technique to activate it. Pedaling Efficiency Clean, smooth, and crisp with zero dead spots through the stroke. No flex, no slop, no lost watts. Just direct, responsive power transfer that got out of the way and let the riding happen.
Conditions Tested: These pedals were evaluated Over 100 miles where they encountered dry hardpack, hero dirt, and unexpected mud. A full day at Passion Play, Eureka Springs — loose gravel, leaf-covered turns, and plenty of janky, technical features. Across all of those conditions, the pedals never became the problem.
Platform Size & Shoe Compatibility: At a size 13 shoe, there was no overhang off the sides and no uncomfortable heel drop off the back. For context, these were benchmarked against a serious stable of reference pedals — Deity, PNW alloy, Crank Brothers and Race Face — and the 8 Degree platform holds its own comparably across that entire group. Ride Concepts shoes paired with these pedals delivered exactly what you’d hope for: locked in, grippy, and confidence-inspiring. Riders running Five Ten shoes should expect a similarly strong experience. A Note on Weight These pedals were mounted on a Yeti LTe e-bike, a platform where the motor and battery already dominate the weight equation, pedal weight is negligible. I'll learn more as the new pair land on a YT Capra.
Durability: Passion Play delivered a few direct rock strikes to the pedals. No looseness, no bearing play, no structural damage. They came through feeling exactly as solid as before the hits and continued to spin and perform as expected. For a trail and enduro-oriented pedal, surviving rock strikes without complaint is a baseline requirement — and the 8 Degree checks that box cleanly. Overall Wear At the 100-mile mark, these pedals feel identical to how they came out of the box. No bearing play, no pin wear worth noting, no structural concerns. The mud encountered during the test never actually packed up on the platform during riding. The port spacing and hole layout visually appears more than adequate to clear debris and maintain shoe-to-pin contact.
Verdict: I bought a second pair with my own money. That’s not a small thing. That’s the review right there. Confidence-inspiring grip, smart out-of-the-box value, and zero drop-off in feel after 100 hard miles.
Here at the Beer Budget Bmx podcast we do our best to keep up with the current products that can improve on our riding skills. These pedals fall into that catagory. These pedals allow your feet to move the way they are suppose to without putting extra pressure on your knees and hips especially when going through corners. These pedals provide excellent grip on all types of surfaces and the 8 degree movement help keep my feet from slipping off. They really are a game changer in any off road riding i do. My knees dont hurt as much as they did before and they allow me to not worry about slipping a pedal.. This is rhe only flat pedals ill ever need
So, I ordered a set of these after Grands to try out. Put them on my 9 year old's class bike and just let him ride. No real feedback other than "they feel fine" and "I can feel them moving". But this week, two months later, we were doing some sprint training. So I let him make 4 runs, then switched him back to regular flats. Wow. The difference was immediate just watching him. You could physically see how much harder he had to work. So here I am ordering a second set for a new cruiser build. They work. They do what they are supposed to do. Probably the best feedback I can give.
Big improvement over my flat pedals on my gravel bike. Good grip with the protruding screw heads and foot moves naturally and subtly, just enough float.
My knees were not sore after my hilly route.
I picked up these pedals for my bikepacking rig after trying out multiple, multiple options. I ditched clipless years ago, they’ve never felt right on multi‑day rides. Since then, I’ve been chasing the “perfect” flat pedal... I think these are the ones I've been searching for. I just wrapped up a 10‑day ride across Tierra del Fuego in Chile and Argentina, and for the first time in forever, I had zero knee pain and none of the usual grumbles. Can't wait to get out and ride some more.
I personally love these petals. I have swapped them from Bike to Bike. Currently, I ride them on my E bike with the stiffest springs. I noticed whatever bike I put them on. I changed springs to accommodate the weight of the bike with the E bike being heavier I use the stiffest Springs possible on my park bike. I use the medium springs for a little bit more finessing overall, I’ve put 150+ miles on these pedals showing no signs of where these pedals are truly robust and I can’t recommend them enough.
Tucker loves the pedal. Could feel the difference right from the beginning. He hasn’t complained about his feet slipping the pedal.
The absolute best flat pedals! As a former runner with bad knees, I had frequent knee pain while riding. These have been a game changer for me! I am a tall woman, so I run size Large on my eMTB. I can ride all day without any knee or foot pain. Super grippy, and look really cool. I won't be going back to normal flats. Highly recommended!
These pedals are fantastic. I use them on my bikepacking rig and now my e-mountain bike. You don't notice how much you shift your feet on platform pedals until you don't have to anymore. Particularly on a bike that you stay saddled on a lot. Once I changed over to these pedals, my feet stay anchored to the pedals with little to no shifting about. The build quality is outstanding and the owner takes tremendous pride in his product. Seriously, give these pedals a try. You won't know what your missing until you do....
At 53 years old I just want to ride my big BMX bike and destress after working all day. This pedal makes my knees feel less strain so I can pedal longer. I absolutely love them.
After years of assisting riders with knee pain while riding flat pedals a new product has arrived. A flat pedal with adjustable tension float. These pedals are solid and have a great amount of grip. The built in float is awesome and definitely makes a difference. If you have knee issues while riding flats this is definitely product you should check out.
I've had my pedals for over a year and absolutely love them. I've been riding MTB for about 7 years and always had problems with my lower legs and knees. I'd always be sore after a long day of riding. I tried 4 or 5 other pedals and could never solve the issue. I saw 8 Degree in a Time's Best Invention issue and decided to try them. Best decision ever. I no longer experience lower leg pain or knee pain when I ride. I never feel like my feet are coming off the pedal, and it's hard for me to explain, but the pedals just subtly flow with me. For reference, I'm in my mid 50's. The durability has been amazing (I pedal strike more than I want to admit). Kenneth is also one of the nicest people I've met. He's always responsive via email, and I had the chance to meet him in person at Bentonville Bike Fest last year.
Awesome innovation. I have a knee problem and help me not hurt after the ride. Thank you. Highly recommended
Just had a quick lap on the pedals. Unfortunately not a big ride as its bloody hot day and I pedaled to top of bike park and then dropped in and they shut the lift due to high winds by the time I got down! Nevermind... After the 1st 50m on them downhill I could feel the difference, so much extra control over the bike, very impressive. I put the stiff springs straight in as I'm about 100kg ready to ride. I had one moment where my foot moved on one pedal on a fast trail over some chunk, I could probably put some washers in to make them stiffer so that the 'float' is stiffer as I think my foot moved at the end of the pedals travel.
I can tell already though that I'm not going to be able to ride normal flats again now!
I'll spread the word and maybe lend them to a couple people to try, I think you'll definitely pick up some extra orders!
My father has knee pain in both his knees. He enjoys riding his mountain bike casually now but has always had pain afterward. These pedals help to reduce his knee irritation so he can enjoy his rides. They are built to a fantastic quality with sealed bearings that are smooth. The way he rides they'll probably never wear out! Thanks for making a great product for the price point!
I love riding flats. However, once my foot was on the pedal, I wasn’t moving my foot for adjustments. I’d have to pull my foot off the pedal to make adjustments. This messed with my cadence and/or balance.
I watched a YouTube about these pedals and thought that these 8 Degree pedals might be the answer. They are!!!!
I love the float. I don’t have to pick up my foot. I just use the float on the pedals to make my adjustments. Not sure if it’s these pedals but my knees don’t ache anymore.
I dig that you can adjust the tension of the float. I haven’t played with this yet since the stock set up works for me.
Anyways, if you are annoyed with being stuck to your flats, try these pedals. They are life changing.
They seem to be the highest quality of any pedal I have owned. They came with many pin length options which is great. As for the action of the float, it kind of feels like there is a cushion built into the pedals. Not what I expected but very nice. The only downside is the thickness and weight, but I plan to keep them and get more for my other bikes.
My new MTB new pedals are amazing, they really make a difference with the grip, and obviously I enjoy the technology is so good to my knees and the handling is superb. Will buy and recommend again and again!!
I've been riding mountain bikes for 30 years and this is my favourite pair of pedals I've ever owned (I've owned a lot😬)
I'm coming back from an injury which is kept me off the bike for almost a year, and buying these pedals has made a huge difference in me being able to get back to riding- the subtle amount of float seems to significantly reduce torsional stress on my healing knee. I found the stiff Spring to feel just about perfect at my 70 kg weight.
I've just ordered another pair for my other bike
